Ritter maintains its heritage of farming as manager and steward of its farmland holdings. Innovation, conservation and sustainability are ingrained into the operation. Farming the right way means emphasizing both yields and sustainability and focusing both on conservation and financial consistency.
Row Crops
Farming the Right Way
Ritter’s Row Crop Operation:
In addition to managing its owned farmland by partnering with local farmer tenants, Ritter farms a significant amount of its land directly, using its own equipment and employees. We produce a variety of traditional commodity crops, including soybeans, rice, cotton, corn and wheat.
Conservation measures Ritter has adopted in its farming operation include:
-
-
- • Using precision land forming of crop fields and innovative sprinkler nozzles to improve irrigation efficiency.
- • Using cover crops, no-till and conservation tillage to control erosion and improve soil quality.
- • Implementing the practice of planting grass and trees on land adjoining rivers and streams to control soil erosion and nutrient and sediment runoff.
- • Engaging in an initiative to reduce nutrient and sediment runoff through voluntary conservation practices that improve water quality, restore wetlands, enhance wildlife habitat and sustain agricultural profitability.
- • Participating in multi-year studies within the United States Department of Agriculture and major universities, discovering and managing how farming practices impact nutrients and sediments in water runoff.
